Arnie getting ready for lunch  10/11/08

Arnie and I fished the Wood River on Saturday and found the river to be just a little high. We started out with very nice conditions, no wind, not many leaves on the surface of the water, and the water temperature, 63 degrees. We fished all of the most likely spots, deeper holes and runs, both deep and on the surface with black or olive leach patterns and terrestrial patterns such as ants, wasps, and black beetles.

Later in the day we fished some small midge patterns but no success. We didn't see many fish rising at all during our stay, things where very quiet on this day.

I thing the higher water had a lot to do with why the fish did not take our offerings, we will try again.

The fall brings with it a lot of falling leaves, if you are fishing dry to a fishing that is showing, just wait for an opening where the leaves are not so concentrated, then cast your fly into that window.
