Fishing Report 10/31/07
Charlestown Beach
Hi everybody, last night we fished the Narrow River at the month, at Sprague Bridge, and on the beach starting in front of the Dunes Club. The time was 4:15 pm on an outgoing tide. We pick up a few schoolies just upstream of the Sprague Bridge on white and dark olive deceivers and 5” mushmonth imitations. The wind direction was blowing from the south east and at times straight upstream, against the tide, water flow. This is the worst scenario to be encountered.
We left the Narrow River and went to Moonstone Beach, the night before it was told to me by another fly fisher that stripers where all over the beach and a lot of bait as well. And I quote; the water was as calm as a mill pond. When we got there the wind was blowing 20 to 30 knots, no bait and no fish. Truly what a difference a day makes.
We left Moonstone and looked at the beach at the breachway in Charlestown and also inside the river. We fished the river because the beach was too windy and we had seen no fish being taken. After a short 30 minutes of trying the river, no fish and again same scenario as the Narrow River. I’ll try again, soon. This is the time of year that you just have to keep going! New fish can arrive at anytime.
Best always, Ed www.edlombardoflyfish.com
