The Blackstone River at Albion and Ashton sections

Hi everyone we fished the Blackstone River this weekend and the wind played a big part in making it not so comfortable, especially for the dry fly enthusiast. Both the Albion and Ashton sections of the river have been stocked last week. The water level of the river is good, even though we have not had much rain so far this fall season.
I did in fact see some BWO’s and midge flying around but with the wind; near impossible to present the fly in an effective way. The river looks to be in great shape and fish almost always willing to take nymphs or streamers down deep or just under the surface.
I also like using caddis patterns such as my partridge caddis, x-caddis, and caddis emergers, in sizes #16 and #14. For streamers Hal Jansen’s stripped leech pattern tied in black, brown, or olive marabou work very well.
When fishing this river make sure to wade slowly with every step until you get to know the river, some of these sections have big rocks and boulders. I suggest wearing polarized sun glasses and using a wading staff.
The Ashton section of the river has far more room to fish, but both sections of the river are great.

Best always, Ed    www.edlombardoflyfish.com
