Fishing Report Narrow River 10/17/07

Hi Again, last night I fished the river and started at, oh, about 4:45pm with an outgoing tide. I began at the month of the river and fished for a short time on the sandbar extending out toward the gap of the river. I stayed there for a good half hour without any takes. I then moved back to just inside the month, oh, maybe 100' or so upstream. I fished that section for another half hour and again no takes. Another fly fisher was fishing the same section just downstream from where I was and within the same amount of time I saw him hookup into a bluefish, nice fish, maybe 8lbs. and nothing after that.  He was using a type 7 fast sinking fly line. I my usual, intermediate airflow forty + line.

I left to see if anything was happing upstream at Sprague Bridge and not one fish took my offerings, I was there for a good 3/4 of an hour or so. I was fishing on the West side of the river and Jeff this older gentlemen and his dog where on the other side of the river. Jeff was using a spinning outfit and he did in fact hookup several times while I was there. Schoolies no shad.

I left that spot and went upstream to Middlebridge, fished this section until 7:50 and took only one schoolie and a shad. Missed three other fish. So the evening was just great even though not many fish where taken by me. Always great and fortunate to be able to get out.

I think if I could have gotten there a few hours earlier with a stronger tide things may have been better.

Best always, Ed www.edlombardoflyfish.com
