Hi everybody, this past August myself along with my good friend Tom Daniels had the pleasure of teaching some of the New England Patriots how to Fly Cast and Fly Fish at Addieville East Farm. On August 31, 2007 Addieville hosted Matt Light's 3rd. annual Matt Light Foundation Celebrity Sporting Clays and Fly Fishing Event. This is the second year that I have been evolved, and I can tell you it is not only a great fund raiser but a lot of fun and very gratifying.
THE MISSION...
"The Light Foundation strives to empower young people to reach their highest potential by initiating and supporting hands on programs and events that promote the development of rational moral values and personal financial acumen so as to instill a sense of self-reliance, sufficiency and independence. We endeavor to accomplish this mission by combining traditional outdoor activities and experiences with athletic endeavors addressing the physical and mental aspects of humanity that make us all unique."

The entry fee to participate is a whopping $1000.00 per/person, this allows all participants to shoot sporting clays, get fly casting and fly fishing lessons, all meals,( breakfast, lunch, and dinner ) live entertainment, and a chance to meet and get photos and autographs with the players. Those who register are also allowed to bring guest, how many I'm not sure.
More than 350 people attended along with some 25 Patriots Players. Some of the players that where in attendance, Asante Samuel, Donte Stallworth, Adalius Thomas, Mike Vrabel, Ty Warren, Wes Welker, Vince Wilfork, Dan Koppen, Laurence Maroney, Cory Mays, Matt Light, and many more.
Guest and players started the day with a great breakfast and then right to the sporting clays courses and trout pond venues. At the trout pond we started out with Vince Wilfork, and Mike Vrable, later on that morning Wes Welker and Ty Warren also learned about tight loops. Later that day Billy Yates, and David Thomas also learned what the double haul is all about. Vince Wilfork and Mike Vrabel both caught trout for the first time, as a matter of fact when Mike hooked into one of his fish he started backing up instead of playing it standing in place and ended up on his backside. While Mike was on the ground I went up to him and said, a man who eats 225lb. backs for breakfast let a little 12" brook trout put down. He said I didn't know that I could take up line off of the reel. OK, Mike my fault I should have reiterated that instruction.
That evening a wonderful dinner and auction was held. Some items that where auctioned off included a Patriots Helmet signed by Tom Brady and other players, signed Patriots jerseys, footballs, prints, and so many great items. The good news, the Matt Light Foundation raised thousands of dollars for a great cause.
Everyone who attended, players, guest, and volunteers, all had a great time, thank you Matt and the Patriots.
