Fishing Report 8/23/07

Hi everybody, we fished The Narrow River last night at both Middlebridge and Sprague bridge. We started at Sprague Bridge and got there at around 4:30pm the tide was still incoming and we didn’t get any fish to take our offerings. We left at 6:15pm to get a sandwich at the local Subway just south of the river on 1A I had my usual, turkey sub and diet soda, Everett a roast beef. We came back to the river at 7:00pm and at that time the river was at the ebb, we could see a good amount of bait (silversides) 2” to 3” in length both under the surface and jumping on top. The good news is that they weren’t schooled up, i.e. bait balls etc. The bait was spread out in larger groups.    . Just as the tide started going out we started taking fish. And as the tide picked up in speed the bite got better. The first hour and fifteen minutes of the tide change produced the best action of the night, 7 to 8:15 pm. We took a good number of schoolies and one keeper around 29”. With high tide at a height of only 3.0 feet the, outgoing was moving extremely slow. At 8:45pm we moved to Middlebridge and fished to 10:30; two and one half hours without one fish. Again I believe that it was this very slow moving water. The height of the tide tonight we be a little better, faster. I would get there at 7:30pm and this should produce some enjoyable fishing. We where using intermediate fly lines. Airflow + 40 9wt. The keeper took my stealth fly approximately 7” long that was my lead fly and my smaller craft fur, gray and white as my dropper fly.
