Fishing report

This time of the year when the cinder worm is slowing down, another hatch is just about to get started, the Hex Hatch. The Hexagenia Limbata or Large Michigan Mayfly which is the largest North American mayfly known will start emerging in local waters. On the Wood River it's a good bet that this Hex Hatch will start around the 15th or 16th of this month, June. The Duns will start at around 8:45 to 9:00pm. For the first week of this hatch it is wise to use an emerger imitation. White and Yellow Wooly Buggers in a size # 8 or #10 imitate this stage well. It will take a little time for the trout to familiarize themselves to this large size phenomenon and they will focus on the fast moving emerging pymphs. Once this hatch gets under way, or more prolific the trout will start taking the Duns and them two or three days after that the spinners. More on this hatch later.
